About This Property

The Tiemann building is located at 155 W. Travis Street. This site has great historical value because it was the temporary location of the second Fayette County Courthouse. In 1928, Gus Tiemann tore down the original building, replaced it with a brand new building, and 
opened the Teimann Bakery.  

The Svobada building at 161 W. Travis Street served as a 
pressroom for the Svoboda, a Czech-language newspaper. It was subject to a fire in 1903 caused by the bakery next door. The current occupant, a printing company, has owned the building since 1982.
