DESCRIPTION: A one-story rectangular brick structure with a hipped metal roof and segmental windows and doors. The building has no chinmey and is attached to a modern concrete block structure along 
its south and part of its west end. 

HISTORY: Built in 1901 by Louis McGee and first occupied by Neal S. Griggs who held onto it until the 1940s. Griggs was from Tennessee and was prom inent in the funeral business. 

SIGNIFICANCE: As reputedly the oldest surviving brick building in Amarillo, and as the early resi dence of a prominent early businessman, this struc ture might be eligible for listing on the National Register. Additional research on the structure, the source of its brick, and the development of the brick industry in Amarillo should be done. The Tolleson building at 509 South Polk was also built of brick in 1901, but it has been remodeled.
