About This Property

German immigrant and merchant Louis Silverstein organized Temple B'nai Isreal in 1865. The congregation, reorganized in 1892, met in various locations until Victoria contractor Joseph Gruy completed the
classically-inspired brick temple in 1923. Victoria's Jewish community has used the temple continuously since that time.
