About This Property

The Victoria diocese secured the services of noted Galveston architect Nicholas Clayton to design to a new sanctuary in the mid 1890s. After the first contractor defaulted. San Antonio architects re-designed the church and Victoria contractor Bailey Mills with Fred Urban as supervisor erected the edifice in 1903-04. Italians , many of whom had come to Texas to work on the state capitol building in the 1880s and later to construct the J. R. Gordon county courthouse worked on the structure.
