The 1920 Sanborn map displays a brick structure in this location with a drug store.  
1514:
Records show that in 1923, Ivies Electric Show Shop called this building home, followed by the Singer Sewing Machine Co. for a short period of time.  The Palace Barber Shop called this location home in the late 1920s.  In 1937, Texas Cafe applied to a liquor license at this location..  Olin Barrett's Shoe Shop and Otis Smith's Recreation Club occupied the building consecutively in the 40s.  Beginning in 1953, a long history of barber shops called 1514 home including Son Batchelor, Leon's, Davis-Yerby, Davis-Russell, Tim's, Davis, Leroy Yerby, Razor Edge, and Lenard and Loureta.
1516:
In the late 1930s, the first of many cafes opened in this location.  The first was Shorty's Café.  The following cafes included: Our-Way Café by Jess Austin, S. L. Johnson Café, Betty's Café by Betty Maxwell, Moore's Café by Quinn & Aline Moore, Bud's Café by Bud White, E. E. Grimmett's Café, Harvey Robertson's Café and Howard's Café by Howard Atnip.
