Built after 1937, the  American Legion building hosted many  dances including the high school’s May  Fetes. During World War II the pilots-in training  from Garner Field danced with  the local girls here. Fifty years later the 
building was renovated for offices upstairs  and commercial space downstairs. In 2000  the Art Deco façade was refaced with brick.
