About This Property

Built in 1960 for First State Bank of Uvalde by W. D. Ryland this building featured many new innovations.
It boasted two drive-in windows and a lighted night deposit as well as three vaults, one with private rooms for depositors to use when opening safe deposit boxes. It was designed by W. C. McCormick and serve as
the bank until 1969 when the new building was completed on East Nopal St. On March 18, 1970 El Progreso Memorial Library moved into the newly renovated building. The library remained here until 2004.
