About This Property

Sometime after 1900,  John and Emma Bartell Zachry moved to  Uvalde and opened a store on the north side 
of the plaza. Early pictures show a wooden  building with a sign reading: “E. B Zachry  & Co.” Around 1910 the wooden building  was replaced with the current brick structure.  The downstairs was divided into three stores 
and the upstairs was divided into offices for  doctors and lawyers.Downstairs tenants have  included Uvalde Drug  Company, Billy Evan’s  Jewelry Store, Hooper  Furniture, Charles  Johnson Furniture, and  Plaza Furniture. Upstairs  tenants included Dr. B.  M. Hines, Dr. A. R..  Bowman, Clint Bowman,  Dr. J. C. Pogue, Dr. W.  A. Latimer, Dr. Gale  Blackaller, Dr. Robert  Thompson and Judge Leo  Darley.
