About This Property

The first Angora goats  were brought to Texas in the 1850’s by  William Haupt, and in 1884, William  Landrum moved his herd from California  to Uvalde County. By 1886 the American  Mohair Growers Association was formed in  San Antonio to promote mohair production.  When the Sultan of Turkey prohibited any  more Angora exports, American stock had  improved so much that further imports were  not necessary. Horner’s and other  merchants bought and sold mohair from  warehouses scattered throughout Uvalde’s downtown.
