M. L. Flowers came to Uvalde in 1911 and worked for the Uvalde  Water Works putting in 12 inch water mains around the plazas. In 1914 he went into  business for himself in a building on the  corner of North Piper Lane, W. North and  N. West streets. He also sold motorcycles  and bicycles. In 1915, he sold the business and moved to Arizona. During WWI he  was a plumber on the Battleship Nebraska. After the war, he married and lived in Austin until T. H. McNelly, president of  First State Bank asked him to come back  and open a plumbing  business. In 1925 he  moved to this block of South Getty. By 1938 the business had grown so much that he built a this modern new building.
