About This Property

Louis Schwartz came to America from Alsace-Loraine in 1866. He was a peddler who sold dry goods, walking and carrying a pack on his back. He eventually opened a store in Uvalde and he and his wife also ran the Schwartz Hotel. In 1926 the L. Schwarz Company built this building for their mercantile store which had grocery, meat, hardware and clothing departments.
