About This Property

P. Hornby was born  in England and came to South Texas as a  young boy. He moved to Uvalde and started 
the Uvalde Leader in 1898 just across Main  Street from this location. Hornby’s son Harry  and his wife Katherine continued publishing  the paper until 1989. This building was built  in 1930 on the site of an old saloon. There were three saloons in this block. The annex to  north east st.  the left was built before 1930 and was Grady Mahaffey’s Abstract office and later Harry  Hornby opened the Leader Art Gallery here.
