About This Property

The City of Uvalde was founded in 1855  and incorporated in 1888. This is the  second city hall on this site. The current  building was designed by Will Noonan in  the Spanish Revival style. The first city hall  was a stone building that had been used as  a courthouse, sheriff’s office and jail. In  1924, the city allowed El Progreso Club to convert the jail cells into a public library.  When the current building was finished in 1930, the library moved into rooms  on the second floor that now serve as the  municipal court. The basement contained  jail cells. An addition was added on the  south side for the police department.
