366 Bonham St 

In 1885 the Mayor Ed Gibbons home sat on the west half of this Block 121 [originally called Block C]; then in 1888 small buildings began to face Bonham Street. A.W. Nevilel said they sprang up haphazardly, and he called the area Smoky Row. The Texas Wagon Yard used all the north portion of the site. By 1892 the Farmers Wagon Yard had all the west end of the block.

Nothing had changed much by 1902. Three buildings faced Bonham, and were numbered 428, 430 & 432. A fourth was at 434 in 1908. Some wagon yard sheds were constructed by then to the Houston Street side of the site. Only the 434 Bonham building was there in 1914.

By 1920 the entire Bonham side of the block was filled with large, brick buildings. The one at this site was constructed in 1917, and numbered 90 through 98, with the Woodland Hotel on the second floor and 8 shops on the floor level facing Bonham. There was a drive through east of 90 Bonham, leading into the parking lot and feed sales structures on the north side. By 1921 W.H. Peterson occupied 96 1/2 to 98 with the Paris Furniture Store. Neville called this the Ashenden Building. Mayor Gibbons had a daughter, Kate, who married Clarence T. Ashenden.

Between 1926 and 1946 the drive through was closed in with a one-story building. There were now 9 small spaces for rent on street level, upstairs used by the Salvation Army at 96 1/2 Bonham. A brick wall went along North 17th Street, and along the Houston Street area east and west. In 1950 the building was used mostly by a Furniture store on the street level. The building was numbered 346 to 370, however.

By 1959 Dickerson Brothers Garage and Auto Repair occupied 346-362 Bonham. Perry Hanley for years after the Dickersons left had his furniture store there and his son, James, rented 12 sites on the second floor.
