340 Bonham St 

In 1885 a house stood about this spot, just west of the wagon yard. It belonged to Ed Gibbons, mayor of Paris from 1879-1880. Three years later the house is gone, burned according to A.W. Neville, and there are 3-4 small business sheds fronting on Bonham. They were labeled 312, 317, etc. 

By 1892 the Farmers Wagon Yard resided on the western half of Block 121, which used to be Block C. A couple of sales and office buildings faced Bonham Street. The Texas Wagon Yard to the east occupied the east half of the block. The area where this building would sit later was number 410, 411.

In 1902 there was a building at 424 Bonham that perhaps was the beginning of occupation on the site of a permanent structure. By 1908 the building outline on the Sanborn Insurance Map was farther north in length. Wagon yards were on the east and west.

In 1914 there was no 424 Bonham; however, by 1920 the current building, labeled 88 Bonham on the street level, was there. The stairway to the upper floor was 86 1/2 Bonham Street. Downstairs was occupied by a grocery and a restaurant. A year later Ferris Gantous, grocery, lived upstairs at what was called 86 1/2; and Andrew J. Dooley, in the furniture business, lived on the west side at 88 1/2. John H. Allen was listed using the ground floor with a restaurant.

In the 1920s James W. Wood's bank failed, and he lost his fine home west at 123  Bonham. He, his wife and daughter, Hettie, moved into the upstairs of this building, which he owned.

In 1946 the address for the doors at the building were 340 and 344 Bonham. In 1959 Scott's General Merchandise was in 340, and 344 was vacant. The entire downstairs was later a pawn shop, which closed a decade ago. It has been unoccupied since.

Waller W. Wood lived in 346 1/2 in 1959, an indication that the smaller building was in ownership of the Wood family.
