302 Grand Ave 

In 1885  a large livery stable was constructed here. The address was 400-404 Grand Avenue. By 1892 Elliott Bottling Works was in a large building constructed on this corner, and was in 400 & 402 Grand Avenue. Elliott had a part in the development of the Dr Pepper formula that ended up in Waco. In 1897 the facility was used by Paris Candy & Bottling Company. Sometime between 1902 and 1908 the business apparently burned, and was replaced by stables at 404. The corner was vacant at the time. It was still vacant in 1914, but after the Paris Fire of 1916 the fire department housed in what is the back (northeast) end of the brick building there now.

In 1920 the building housed a hotel upstairs, and the temporary fire facility was still in the north end. The address was 68 & 70 Grand Avenue. The 1921 City Directory called it the Phoenix Hotel, entrance at 68 Grand Avenue. At 70 Grand Avenue, downstairs, was Rogers Paint Shop.

The 1959 City Directory says it was the Grand Hotel at 302 Grand Avenue, with Elizabeth T. Tompkins manager. The old fire department bay was an auto repair and sales area for years. Roy Welch later used the hotel part as apartments, and the back end storage for his photo frame goods.
