The nameplate on the cast-iron threshold of this building is “Enquirer” because it once served as the home for John H. Bingham’s McKinney Enquirer. John Murray and T. E. Grissom launched the Enquirer in 1866. Captain John H. Bingham purchased the paper in 1867 and continued publishing it until 1898 when he shut it down. Mosher Manufacturing made the steel for the building. 

In 1910, James C. Copeland joined the Coup Music House, which was occupying the building at that time. The Coup Music House was a music store the specialized in selling the first upright piano, the Gulbransen. The piano's price could range from $400 to $700, which ,at the time, was roughly the price of a car. The Coup Music House occupied the building for until about 1947, when it became the McKinney Office Supply Store. The McKinney Office Supply Store has been in operation for over 60 years and is still open today.
