About This Property

Its first owner was Thomas Wiley, a physician who came to McKinney from Alabama in 1866. Although Wiley built another home in the 1890s, which was razed in the 1970s, he owned this house on South Church Street until his death in the 1940s. City directories from various years in the 20th century reveal that it was a rent house. This one-story L-plan dwelling is one of the cities most outstanding examples of an extremely popular space vernacular plan-type of late 19th century McKinney.
