The original occupants of this home were Lester and Mabel Chorn. At the request of Lester’s parents, the house was built in 1913 by contractor J.B. Wilson to replace a c.1880’s home that previously sat on the site. 

This was the newlywed home for Lester and his bride. As the marriage was short lived, the elder Chorn couple (Mr. Ebenezer H. and Hannah Bratton Chorn) took up residency in the home in 1918. Mr. Chorn was considered a pioneer in the early business struggles of Mansfield before the railroad came in. Ebenezer Chorn worked as a freighter between Fort Worth and Mansfield for 20 years before establishing a drug store on Main (Water) Street with his sons. He also served as the director of the Farmers and Merchants Bank. 

The Chorns lived in the home until 1940 at which time a Mrs. Barden ran a boarding house there for about a year. In 1941 the home was purchased by the McElvaneys who lived in the home for 44 years. Donnie and Terri Anderson purchased the home in 1983 with plans to restore the home as closely to original as possible. The Andersons applied for landmark status. 

The Chorn home is now a registered Mansfield Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
