About This Property

The Buttrill House is the most prominent residence in historic downtown Mansfield due to its size, design and conspicuous site. It is also Mansfield’s most architecturally developed historic dwelling, designed in the Classical Revival style, with an impressive two-story colonnade which extends along the two principal facades.
 
The house was designed and built by local contractor Jay Grow around 1904 for David B. Buttrill, a farmer and owner of a general merchandising business who came to Mansfield from Alabama in the 1890’s with his wife Jane and seven sons. 

The house is an officially Recognized Historic Resource of Mansfield.
