The Richardson House was originally owned by Roberta Dukes Richardson, her husband, J.M. Richardson, and her son, Jackson M. Richardson, as one of three rental houses. The current house sits on a part of a larger lot that once contained the three-story house of Dr. Julian T. Feild, son of one of Mansfield’s founders. Dr. Feild’s mansion was demolished in the early 1920s. 

In 1948, the house was sold by J.M. Richardson and his son to C.C. and Byrdette Brown. The house was conveyed to conveyed to Ina Faye Key in July 1978. Ms. Key sold the house to Robert and Linda Sutphen in November of the same year. The Sutphens retained ownership of the house until it was sold to Charles and Bonna Frances Bagley in 1984. Upon Mr. Bagley’s death, it remained in the ownership of his widow. Mrs. Bagley-Baxter died in 2015 and the family sold the house to local businessman Matt Crocker. 

The house has been converted into a small retail shop but retains its character. The house is a cross-gable bungalow. Although some of the original character-defining architectural elements of the house have been modified, the house still represents a style of construction from the early 20th century and is a focal point that adds to the historic feeling of the historic W. Oak Street neighborhood. 

The house is a registered Mansfield Historic Landmark.
