About This Property

This modified L-Plan house was constructed around 1895. The house was purchased by E.O. Driskell from Gertie Barrett in 1917. Mr. Driskell and his wife, Mayme, were married in November 1916, and moved into the house after their wedding. The Driskells continued to live in the house until 1941, when they moved to the family’s farm. 

E.O. Driskell came to Texas with his parents in the late 1880s and they moved to Mansfield in 1906. He worked as a farmer until he was appointed as Mansfield’s postmaster by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. He served as postmaster for 34 years under six presidents. 

The house has been modified since its original construction. For example, the front porch was larger than it is today and the front chimney appears to be a later addition to the house. 

This house is an officially recognized historic resource of the City of Mansfield.
