About This Property

While it appears to be a vernacular 2-story brick building, the McKnight Building reflects aspects of Renaissance Revival design, derived from 16th century Italian architecture. The arched windows on the second floor and the parapet detailing are features reminiscent of Renaissance Revival design, a style used from between 1890 and about 1935.
 
The building was constructed for Dr. William B. McKnight in 1895. Dr. McKnight maintained an office at the rear of the first floor. A drug store occupied the front commercial space until 1938. The Knights of Pythias Lodge occupied the second floor from 1899 to 1940, when James S. McKnight purchased the second floor from the Lodge and converted it to an apartment. The building is currently home to the Mansfield Historical Museum and Heritage Center.
