Why Luling?

Luling Texas, a rural community at the southern tip of Caldwell County was established in 1874 as a result of railroad expansion that terminated in an area just west of Plum Creek. Luling’s trajectory changed forever when oil was discovered in 1922 by Edgar B. Davis and now almost 100 years later, oil continues to be extracted from fault lines beneath Luling each and every day. Situated less than an hour from both Austin and San Antonio and also located on the I-10 corridor connecting San Antonio and Houston, Luling always attracts many visitors from three of the largest metro areas in the state.   Famous for world renowned BBQ, delicious watermelons, seasonal farmers markets, crazy pump jack art and decorative water towers, tourists flock to Luling all-year-around to experience its rich cultural heritage, its many attractions, celebrated events, and unique shops. Zedler Mill has also become a major destination for weddings and business events due to its wonderful amenities and natural beauty located at the scenic San Marcos River Dam.

Being right on the southern edge of the Austin-San Marcos MSA, Luling’s rural/urban juxtaposition offers the advantage of reasonable costs when looking at local investment opportunities just outside the two major metros of Austin and San Antonio. And as a Texas Main Street city, Luling is committed to economic development through historic preservation, utilizing incentive programs such as façade grants, low interest loans, and other design assistance and business development tools to help cultivate a diverse mix of small businesses in the downtown district.
