Why Longview?

Things are brewing in our mid-century modern downtown - and we want you to be a part of our downtown community. Having recently completed a strategic plan for downtown development, the City of Longview, Longview Main Street and the One Hundred Acres of Heritage are excited about the potential growth and renewed energy occurring in our downtown district.  Through the initiatives laid forth in our recently adopted small area plan and recent residential development interest as well as recent building purchases in the downtown district, the entrepreneurial spirit in Downtown Longview is vibrant!

Founded in the early 1870s when Southern Pacific Railroad extended its tracks westward from Marshall into Gregg County, Longview has a rich history in the oil and gas industry, but has also been a regional center for medical and aviation innovation. On a trajectory for growth, Longview residents appreciate a high quality of life, with great dining opportunities, live music events in Heritage Plaza and of course the annual Great Texas Balloon Race in July.
