About This Property

The corner building on Kleberg and Seventh are number 231 was built in 1911.  In 1913 John M. Cypher and his nephew, John A. Cypher moved their furniture store to this location.  The furniture business soon evolved into a variety store and then called Cypher’s 5¢-10¢ Sore.  They continued in business for 40 years at this location.  Wilson’s True Value Hardware occupied this location from 1974 until 1997 when they moved to King Avenue.  This 1911 building originally had a wraparound canopy and tan brick façade.  The white stucco façade was added covering the beautiful brick.
