About This Property

This two-story historic building - UPSTAIRS:  Early 1900's once held the original telephone company back when Grand Saline phone numbers were only one digit.  In those early years the bank was #1 and Darby's Department Store was #2.  There was a lady telephone operator who answered all incoming calls and placed all outgoing calls through a switchboard where she plugged in a cable to connect the phone calls.  Later the switchboard was replaced with automated dialing.  The telephone office closed in the 1950's and the switching equipment was relocated to a building on Spring Street.
DOWNSTAIRS:  originally known as City Food Store, owned by Claude Smith, and was also referred to as Smith's Grocery Store.
Later, downstairs became an appliance store followed by a computer shop (Cyber Shop) which is now closed.
