It is said that this building was a café in its early days. It is rumored that at some time during the 1960's a gentleman came to help remodel the pharmacy.  When he pulled up flooring where the café gas stove had been a rubber tube was found.  This rubber tube led to a large container which held some sort of liquor assumed to be moonshine.  When they wanted to retrieve the moonshine they unplugged the gas stove and accessed this tube.  The local law authorities investigated several times; however, never had success catching this possible bootlegging. This would have been in the Prohibition Days.
Later, this two-story City Pharmacy is where the locals filled prescriptions and stopped by at the soda fountain counter. 
This building also served as a bus station at some point in time. In 2005 the St. Celestine Catholic Church met at this location. 
It is now open every morning as the gathering place of local citizens as they discuss all manner of topics from politics to high school sports to "the good ol' days" over a friendly cup of hot coffee. There is a sign above the tables stating "The Table of Knowledge" which we'll leave you to form your own opinion if it's fact or myth as you may join in on game of dominoes.
This is a wonderful place to learn the history of Grand Saline as you view many photographs on display along with all sorts of collectibles and memorabilia of days past. In the late 1920's, Dr. Garland's (Wiley Lee "W.L." Garland, Sr.) purchased the building and established his medical office downstairs in the back of the building.  Dr. Elliott, a dentist practiced upstairs, as well as, law offices.  His son Wiley L. Garland, Jr. was the pharmacist downstairs and later became a banker.  His son, Wiley Garland, III, was a banker and passed the building on to his three children in 2009.
