Why Elgin?

Elgin is a historic city located 19 miles east of Austin on Hwy. 290. Known as the Sausage Capital of Texas, the Brick Capital of the Southwest and Home of the Hogeye Festival.

Elgin is a Texas Main Street city with a well-preserved downtown featuring both a local and National Register Historic District. A combination of the historic tax credit program, flexible zoning allowing for ground floor residential in the rear, and generous incentives has created a number of substantial redevelopment projects in just the last few years. Major projects in planning stages include Elgin's Central Park and the Elgin Local Foods Business Center.  The zoning overlay has supported growth in food processing businesses, mixed use space, and new loft apartments.

Availability in downtown is updated here regularly. Complete details on incentives and development standards are available on the city's Do Business Downtown page.

A variety of commercial and residential growth is occurring in Elgin.  New subdivisions are under construction, new commercial investment on HWY 290 incudes Tractor Supply.
