About This Property

H. Runqe & Co was one of Texas' earliest and most influential business establishments. The firm originally was involved with the shipping of qood to West Texas! but later entered the grocery and banking business. 
The firm was based in Indianola, but had a branch facility in Cuero by  1873. After the 1875 storm two senior partners, William Frobese and Edward  Mugge, moved to Cuero. After the 1886 storm, Emil Reiffert, the other senior  partner, moved to Cuero and relocated the company's headquarters in Cuero.  The firm expanded their operations and proved a major economic enterprise in  South Texas during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
