About This Property

Otto Buchel, an early Cuero merchant, established a private bank on this site in 1873. His early partner was George Seeligson, but he later joined forces with William Wagner. The bank grew and by 1907 it was incorporated and renamed the Buchel National Bank.  Buchel served as president until his death in 1910. Later presidents include  Joseph Sheridan and Leroy Hamilton. In 1911 a fire destroyed the brick  building the stood on the site and the present structure was built soon afterwards.
