Angus Travis along with various members of the Travis family owned a significant amount of property in Canton and Van Zandt County. This location housed the Canton Lumber Company orgnized in 1919 and later the T. L. James Lumber Company. Angus Travis owned the City Lumber Company for a number of years at this location. In 1961, the old wooden structures used by the lumber company were torn down and the brick building was built to be used as their new headquarters.
