Canton Masonic Lodge #141 was chartered in 1853 and became active in 1854 The more prominent business men of the Canton Community were members of the Lodge. The Masons purchased the lot where the building is located in 1893 from G. W. Tull and built the brick buildings in 1920. The first tenant was Liberty Hardware and Furniture with headquartrs in Wills Point. Chuck McCauley was the manager. The company carried hardware, furniture and funeral supplies. In 1926, the business went into receivership (bankrupt) and the Eubanks from Wills Point bought the stock of merchandise from the trustee. This merchandise was used to start the first business for the Eubanks in Canton. The Eubanks were in the Canton business community for over 85 years.
