About This Property

The Plaza served as the only theater in Canton for 50 years. Joe Marshall Hackney, an experienced theater operator, built the Plaza Movie Theater in 1946. At the time, the Plaza was one of the most modern motion picture theaters in East Texas. Hackney was the owner operator of the theater for 30 years, prior to his death in 1979. After Joe Hackney's death, his son, Don Hackney, beame the owner of the theater.
