The Peace family were early Van Zandt County settlers. J. A. Peace, the father of Clyde, in the 1880s, owned a blacksmith and wagon shop, on the Southwest corner of the Canton Square. He was also a saloon owner. In 1893, he built a brick building on Buffalo Street at the junction of Buffalo and Dallas Street. Clyde was trained as a blacksmith and automobile mechanic at an early age. He built the brick building to house his blacksmith shop and garage. About 1950, he sold the building to the Eubanks who ran a variety store from the location.
