About This Property

Built ca. 1915 by Will G. Barber, the building was a movie house with shows on Friday and Saturday nights. In the early days of moving pictures, it ran silent films with a live pianist "interpreting" the picture's action. Later, the building was used as a cafe and a hat shop in the rear. It also was modified into apartments at one time. Its side and rear facades are built with hollow, clay tile bricks but faced with a finer red brick. This was a common practice to save money on building materials, saving the more expensive brick for the primary facade.
