The Edison Plaza Building originally built as the Gulf States Utility building was designed by the Houston firm of Morriss Architects. At 17 stories high, the skyscraper is the tallest building in downtown Beaumont. Sited on the terminal axis of Crockett Street, just in front of the Neches River, the building dwarfs the older adjacent neighbors and with its bold modernist lines pays little heed to the local historical context.
