The Bastrop Opera House was constructed in 1889 by D.S. Green and P.O. Elzner, a prominent local merchant, became sole owner in 1901.  Ove the years, it has been the scene of a variety of entertainment shows.  Traveling opera and drama companies, musicians, and other artists have performed here.  The Bastrop Opera House, which features a three-part facade with bays separated by pilasters, also has been the setting for graduation exercises and school proms.  Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1984.

This is the famous Opera House, built in 1889. It has served as the center for entertainment in the area for many years. In 1942, it became the Strand Theatre and was in operation through World War II. In the 1950s, it was known as the Teen Tower and hosted sock hops and other social events. It fell into disrepair but was restored in the late 1970s, and since 1984 it has consistently offered award-winning live performances of vaudeville, melodramas, musicals and comedies. The stage is held up by massive cedar log joists. The foundation underneath the stage, which actors can access through a trap door, is dirt.
