About This Property

Originally built for Levine's Department Store and Walgreen's. The building, located at 800 South Polk has been closed for years, but back in the day it was a thriving store that carried apparel for men, women, children, shoes, fabrics, and home goods. The Amarillo store featured a 'bargain basement', said to be the first in the Texas Panhandle with standard brands located on the main floor. As Amarillo developed during the early 20th century, Polk Street became a prominent commercial corridor for the city. Located on 8th and Polk streets, the Levine's Department Store was situated in the heart of the shopping district in Amarillo. Levine's space was later occupied by Colbert's and Colbert's Harry Holland and closed in the early 1970's before becoming a warehouse.
