The c. 1908 Kouns-Jackson House represents a link to the transportation network that radiated from Amarillo. A significant number of railroad employees lived in the Plemons Addition, one of Amarillo's oldest neighborhoods. This house was built about 1908 for Charles Kouns, general manager of the East Railway of New Mexico System. It is a fine local example of Prairie School Design applied to Four Square form.

The Kouns family lived in the house until about 1911 when they moved and rented the house to J.C. Paul, secretary and treasurer of the Amarillo Street Railway. Around 1913 the house was rented by J.L. Kendrick, owner of a local furniture company. In the early 1920s the house was sold to Claude D. Jackson, a travelling leather goods salesman and a charter member of the Firs t Presbyterian Church. After Jackson's death, his wife lived in the house until 1966, when she sold the property t o W.R. and Opal Haley, who used it as a studio for their interior decoration business. The building is now used as an attorney's office.
