The Central Presbyterian Church of Amarillo is the successor of the First Presbyterian Church, founded in 1890, and the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The national Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which had split from the main church before the Civil War and was a revivalistic church, merged into the Presbyterian Church of America in 1906. After this merger, the local church became known as the Fillrrore Street Presbyterian Church and then the Central Presbyterian Church. The present church was completed in 1927 at a cost of $400, 000.
