About This Property

Built for Lee Bivins who was said to be the largest individual cattle rancher in the world when he died. Bivins was a civic leader in Amarillo as well, serving two terms as mayor, fran 1925 to 1929, when he died in office. Lee Bivins' widow, Mary , lived in the house for many years after his death; She left it to the Amarillo Public Library for whom the addition was built. The house was known as the Mary Bivins Library from 1955 to 1976 and is presently occupied by the Chamber of Commerce.
