Alpine is the seat of Brewster County and home to Sul Ross State University and the Museum of the Big Bend. With over 6,000 residents, Alpine is the largest town in the Big Bend region and serves at the "Hub of the Big Bend." There is lots to love about this vibrant town: mild climate, mountain views, a lively art scene and strong community spirit. We are proud of our local businesses and the tourism economy in our historic downtown that supports the many travelers on their way to and from Big Bend National Park. We offer an authentic West Texas, small town experience. Should you decide you want to bring your business here, we have a place for you.
Alpine participated as one of the pilot cities in the development of the Texas Historical Commission's Downtown, TX project. Other current downtown initiatives include the plan, "A Vision for the Future" by the Center for Urban and Regional Planning Research - College of Architecture, Construction and Planning at the University of Texas at San Antonio. This plan highlights the importance of downtown for the entire community's economic well-being and presents recommendations on improving the downtown district and its tourism potential. The final draft is expected to be released in the fall of 2016.
